rain on your wedding day

How's this for irony: Everyone posts the trailer for "A Game of Thrones", and amazon sends me this email:
Guten Tag,

Nach Auskunft des Verlags bzw. Herstellers wird der folgende Titel leider nicht mehr aufgelegt:

George R. R. Martin "A Dance with Dragons: Book 5 of A Song of Ice and Fire"

Dieser Artikel musste nun endgültig aus Ihrer Bestellung gestrichen werden.

Before I'd always gotten "delay" emails for the book - this one says the publisher told them that at least the edition I ordered won't come out at all.

That book has just been in limbo for years. We can still sort of hope he'll actually finish it (maybe even that the impending series will light a fire under his ass and get him back to working on it) -- but, as I was saying to my mother, the TV series will undoubtedly be cancelled before it runs through all four of the existing books. (I'm still bitter about Deadwood's cancellation.)

Deadwood is intricately plotted and well-characterized. Many female characters, not all of whom are prostitutes. Sex and violence and notably filthy language, also (period-appropriate) racism and sexism and anti-semitism, I'm sorry to say. And since the show was cancelled and the showrunner was hoping for a movie or two later on to wind up the plotlines (that never happened), the third season sort of falls on its face in the final episode (after a phenomenal pair of episodes preceding it). Still worth watching, I felt, though it does horrible things to my accent whenever I watch the series again (since I already have a tendency to sound like half the characters on it anyway).

Woe! I think he'll never finish, which just makes me sad.
