First one thing that's interesting to people other than me: elz made intro_to_cs, where we'll follow the MIT "Intro to Computer Science" course. All material is free and online, including video lectures, and I'll start in November. There's also people who'll start in January, and people doing one lecture a week or two. The course doesn't require programming experience and uses Python. If you're interested, come play!

I always wanted to do something like that, but learning on my own without any outside structure with timetables doesn't really work for me, so I'm very happy that elz is doing this. See you over there!

In other, more boring news: It's the weekend! I have time! Now I just have to use that time.... So here's a reminder to myself.

• write post about LJ signup today - it qualifies for Halloween, after all


• write up the Pfefferkuchen recipe so I can post it on bakeitup in November


• while I'm on that, make sure I have the ingredients so I can actually bake; what about pictures? I have to get a new camera anyway...


• find some cool people to follow. Actually talk to the cool people I already follow some day.

Hmm, that course thing seems to be interesting. I mostly suck at teaching myself stuff too. I'm a social animal when it comes to learning and need to do it with other people. It's kind of a miracle that I managed to teach myself basic HTML, really. Do I need to do anything more than installing the stuff? Are there regular talking sessions planned (because that would probably help)?

Also: November Resolution? LJ signup?

You don't have to install anything as far as I can see - the book is a pdf, and everything is on the website itself (you can download that, too, but it runs in your browser). The videos are embedded and can be downloaded as mp4s.

I hope there'll be talk sessions - otherwise I probably won't keep to the timetable.

November resolution will basically be "eat real food". LJ signup is completely unrelated - I made an account yesterday, just to see what changed, and want to post about it. (That's probably of interest to you, too: A lot of my complaints are translation-related. *g*)

Oops, I forgot. Yes, you have to install IDLE (and maybe Python itself, though that was preinstalled for me).
